The seller of the goods or services is responsible for collecting, reporting, and remitting the sales tax. The highest sales tax in the state is in Atlantic City at 12.625% . There is no state sales tax in Alaska; however, local governments – which include boroughs, the Alaska equivalent of counties, and municipalities – may levy up to 7.5 percent.
